Processing trash after harves is key for efficient use of organic matter and improved soil quality. Crop residues, if left unchanged, can become a breeding ground for disease and pests alike. Unevenly distributed plant residues can complicate subsequent working operations. An effective solution to this problem is to process them thoroughly, which speeds up their decomposition. This can be carried out using the STRIEGEL – PRO straw harrow, cutting with MULCHER implements or using DURACUT TE and SPEED-CHOP SC_F cutting rollers.
The amount of above ground biomass, in the form of straw, increases with the growing grain yields. The straw can either be baled after harvest, or chopped and spread in the field with a combine harvester during harvest. In the latter case, it is necessary to spread the trash evenly along the entire width of the header to avoid the formation of clusters around the crusher.
Even distribution of straw and crop residue can be achieved using the STRIEGEL-PRO straw harrow that also processes soil up to a depth of 1.6″ when passing across the field, thus creating ideal conditions for the growth of leftover cereal seeds. If the combine harvester leaves taller stubble behind, the MULCHER rotary cutter can be used to shorten the stubble field, break the stalks and distribute them evenly.
STRIEGEL-PRO Straw HarrowThe STRIEGEL‑PRO straw harrow, equipped with cutting coulters, is ideal for a stubble field with desiccated canola. The front coulters cut up dry canola parts, and straw harrow evenly distributes them along the field. The leftover canola seeds immediately start growing – the coulters finely crumble the soil, the straw harrow mixes the small canola seeds with soil and they start germinating. Their subsequent destruction is effective, low cost and fast, covering the whole area.
A rotary cutter can be used in a stubble field after canola that has not been desiccated. It chops and shreds the resistant crop residue and distributes it evenly all over the field.
Tillage after corn harvest, namely grain corn, is often difficult, and trash management plays an irreplaceable role here. Using the MULCHER rotary cutter reduces crop residue to the optimal size of 1.2″ – 2″, accelerates the decomposition process, and facilitates its incorporation into soil.
Cutting has an irreplaceable role in landscaping and maintaining grasslands in terms of regulating weeds or promoting grass offsetting and maintaining the quality of fodder.
Weeds usually get to the field from untreated edges, therefore, the edges should also be maintained to prevent spreading into the field. Cutting is also important for the formation of fodder of the same quality in pastures where cutting helps thicken the vegetation, improves grass offsetting, and eliminates the old, ungrased grass.
