Row-Master -The specialist for sugar beet on ZS Slovec farm
ROW-MASTER -THE SPECIALIST FOR SUGAR BEET ON ZS SLOVEC FARM
The primary effect of inter-row hoeing is no longer through mechanical weed control but by the removal of soil crust that forms a few hours after rainfall. Unfortunately, torrential rain has become part of modern day farming practice. It is therefore a very important function of the soil water regime, which can be started by deep soil loosening using the chisel plows Terraland in the autumn and during vegetation, to support the regime of using an inter-row cultivator. Hoeing aerates the soil and makes oxygen more available to the beets. This is why a number of farms are returning to hoeing. Hoeing has a direct impact on yield and sugar content in beets.
Row-Master RN is a powerful specialist for suger beet – designed by growers
At the beginning of the project we discussed with growers from Slovec farm the overall design of the machine. The ZS Slovec farm has grown sugar beet for several decades on an area of 400 hectares. Inter-row cultivators are not new machines on the Slovec farm. Slovec has used inter-row cultivators for several years. Therefore, the idea of a new inter-row cultivator design was quite clear. In addition, their ideas along with those from another important sugar beet grower, the Palomo Lostice farm, which is located in the Sumperk district (area of 350 hectares of sugar beet). Opinions on machine design from both these large czech sugar beet growers were the same. The main requirements were for a lightweight, compact inter-row cultivator, capable of achieving a high daily performance when working with 100HP tractors. “We are able to hoe 60 hectars a day with our 18 row Row-Master using the optical self-guidance system. It means we can easily hoe our whole sugar beet area in one week.” Said Ondrej Sobota (agronomist.ZS Slovec) when evaluating the performance of the Row-master.

Self-guidance improves the performance and accuracy of work
BEDNAR ROW-MASTER can be equipped with scanning optics the CultiCam for monitoring of vegetation. The CultiCam is capable of navigating the machine from 2-leafs of beet, it enables very early and accurate loosening after suger beet germination. The CultiCam camera scans 3 lines and evaluates the growth then forwards the information to an electronic system which communicates with the hydraulic steering of the cultivator. The Hydraulic steering system leads the Row-Master working units to operate directly in the lines between the vegetation. “Self-guidance of Row-Master was for us a very positive surprise, it works perfectly. We can cultivate 18 rows in a single pass without any damage of plants” said Jiri Sobota (farm manager and co-owner of ZS Slovec). About the guidance system.

Well-advised working units of Row-Master
Working units operate on a parallelogram linkage. Due to the unique silent block placement of each working unit, pressure is constantly evolved to the working parts. The Row-Master enters the soil crust easily and holds more precisely the working depth. Working parts of the Row-Master can be changed for different stages of vegetation and soil conditions.
Silent block placement of each working unit increases pressure on soil
3 shares ( width 150 mm 100% overlapping) great for loosening in early spring
1 share ( width 150 mm) and 2 points (width 40 mm) for later cultivation
Ridgidity of the body ( width 60 mm) with mouldboard. Covering of roots (beets) with soil until harvest reduces damage of tubers. This has a positive impact on the final valuation of the tuber by the processor (sugar refinery)
Makeing the decision for 12 or 18 rows cultivator?
During the season of 2014 we met several growers requiring to possibly make a change to the number of rows, especially from 12 to 18 rows. The main reasons were: to use the Row-Master for contracting for other growers who establishing sugar beet, using planters with a different number of rows. Furthermore, possible future investments in 18 row planters if now the farm uses 12 row planters.
The flange on the side frame is used for mounting the extension of side frames
Row-Master can easily be extended through the flange to 18 rows and respectively from 18 rows to 12 rows
