The BEDNAR SWIFTERDISC XO6000F has been tested in Les Morillons

One of the first ever BEDNAR summer demonstrations in France, took place in the village Les Morillons close to Saint-Martin-des-Champs. The farmer Mr. Cosmes wanted to test the SwifterDisc XO6000F short disc cultivator after the barley harvest. Once out in the field the brand new machine attracted other farmers who were just passing by on the main road next to field and the new disc cultivator showed us all why it is going to be so popular on french fields.

A dry and stony field, a major test for the SwifterDisc

Mr. Cosmas started to test SwifterDisc in one of his most difficult fields, as most farmers do when they really want to test the limits of a tool. The field was completely dried out from the previous operation which was done by a french para-plough. The stubble was not mixed and the soil profile was just sub soiled. Moreover small and medium size stones made the conditions even more challenging. It was a good field for a tough test.

The A-discs done the job in no time

The BEDNAR SwifterDisc was equipped with a special aggressive type of disc, the so called A-discs. A-discs have been specially designed with profiled teeth. The Teeth are able to cut plant residue very aggressively and improve penetration in the dry soil. The disc profile takes more soil from the ground than the traditional notched disc. The mixing increases, as does the working speed. There were a few funny moments when the first question many of the farmers who popped over for a look asked „Does the machine jump?“. We demonstrated SwifterDisc live at 18km/hr, the BEDNAR SwifterDisc remains stable even if the speed is higher than 15km/hr. The machine has an axle integrated in front of the rear packers. This increases the machine stability, keeps the top soil flat and makes no waves. The combination of high speed and the A-discs did a great job. Only the spring packer was too light for such a dry conditions and a steel ring packer would definitely have been better, a fact that all of the french farmers who attended the test drive agreed on.
