Second Double-row Winter Oilseed Rape Assessment

On Tuesday, 17 December 2019, we met Doc. Ing. Václav Brant, Ph.D. from the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague and Jindřich Šmöger from Statek Burešs.r.o. in a field of ZD Dolní Újezd near Makov, in the area of the Vysoké Mýto Syncline, to assess the crops of winter oilseed rape established in double-rows with a subsidiary crop on 9 August for the second time. Planting winter oilseed rape in double rows is a new technology, performed in two steps. The first one is deep loosening with the placement of good fertilizer into the soil profile using the TERRASTRIP ZN 8/75 chisel plough, designed for strip-till soil cultivation, with a spacing of working parts at 75 cm.

The second step is to plant double rows with a spacing of 25 cm, precisely above the strip of the cultivated and fertilized soil profile using the OMEGA OO 6000 FL seed drill. Subsidiary crops can be planted in the inter-row, which is 50 cm wide. The subsidiary crop supports the winter oilseed rape vegetation in the first stage and then it freezes or is mechanically weeded out.
