A SEED DRILL DESIGNED FOR STRIP-TILL TECHNOLOGY, TO RESPOND MODERN AGRONOMIC TRENDS

The MATADOR MO seed drill is specifically designed for strip seeding technology. This innovative approach, which combines strip-tillage with simultaneous seeding, offers revolutionary perspectives on the organisation of the cropping system. The arrangement of the loosening tines allows for targeted cultivation of the crop row, meeting the new agronomic and legislative requirements, such as the need to reduce herbicide use and replacing it with mechanical weeding.

The MATADOR MO, with 6-meter working width, offers the perfect combination of deep loosening in strips, precise fertiliser application into the soil profile, and precise sowing. This process ensures optimal conditions for future crop root development and optimal nutrition, enhancing overall productivity. Strip-till technology, combines many agronomic advantages such as moisture retention, erosion prevention, and a reduction in field passes.

Equipped with a dual-chamber pressurised hopper of 5,000 liters total tank-capacity (40:60 chamber ratio), this machine ensures uninterrupted operation over extended periods. Additionally, the MATADOR MO can be outfitted with the ALFA DRILL 400 seeding unit, facilitating small-seeds seeding in inter-rows or the application of microgranulate fertiliser. Seamlessly integrated into the control interface of the MATADOR MO seed drill, the seeding unit control enhances operational efficiency and precision.

Strip-tillage

The strip-tillage section is formed by tines with a robust and individual AUTO-RESET hydraulic protection with 870 kg release force (maximum lift height: 30 cm). The tine section provides quality tillage, disruption of hardened layers and mixing of the crop residue with soil. The section has ACTIVE-MIX tines that can be equipped with 40- or 80-mm points. Overall, the MATADOR MO 6000 seed drill has 16 tines placed in two rows with a spacing of 37.5 cm. The individual tines can be fitted with applicator spouts, for fertiliser application. The disc section works behind the tines and is hydraulically adjustable. It can be set to level the soil before the tyre packer (suitable for most types of cereals) or to create ridges (suitable for rapeseed).

The double-row tyre packer is a great advantage of the MATADOR MO seed drill. The packer is designed as offset with a large spacing between the first and second rows and independent wheel mounting. This design reduces the rolling force of the machine, prevents the formation of waves and prevents clogging when working in wet conditions. The independent wheel mounting provides easy replacement in case of puncture.

High Variability in Crop Organisation

The MATADOR MO seed drill can be equipped with the CORSA CN seeding bar on its rear 3-point hitch, for cereal or rape sowing. The universal seeding bar includes double-disc drill coulters equipped with individual parallelogram and the choice between different row spacings: 12.5, 25 cm, or double rows arrangement (12.5 cm inter-row spacing and 25 cm between two double rows). The CORSA CN seeding bar can now be equipped with front equipment: CRUSHBAR levelling board, FRONTPACK tyre packer, TURBO or PROFI coulter section. However, MATADOR MO can also be used in combination with a precision planter for corn, sugar beet or sunflower planting. In this case, it is possible to deactivate every other tine and loosen the soil in strips with an inter-row distance of 75 cm. This design is also interesting to reduce the power demand, an interesting fact for farms that do not own a sufficiently powerful tractor. The tine distance of 75 cm can be used for rape crop establishment in double rows with fertiliser application in the middle of the double row.

The crop is established in double rows with an inter-row spacing of 12.5 cm. The double rows get fertilisation from the fertilised strips with a spacing of 37.5 cm. This organisation facilitates mechanical weeding.

Intuitive Control and Comfortable Calibration

Easy control is a priority for the operators. MATADOR MO is equipped with new BEDNAR EASY CONTROL software that guarantees easy and well-arranged control. The seed drill is compatible with the ISOBUS technology but it can also be controlled using an external BEDNAR ISOBUS display. A series of control displays with basic or advanced control functions are available.

BEDNAR developers designed the FARM LINK mobile app that provides easy and simple calibration of the seed drill from your smartphone. The app includes a guide that helps to choose the right seeding roller according to the type of seeds/fertiliser, the working speed and the seeding rate.

When developing machines, BEDNAR always puts emphasis on easy control and simple calibration to make work easy for operators.

Continuous Crop Monitoring in Real Conditions

When developing new machines, BEDNAR does not only check technical parameters, but also their direct impact on the crop.

We have recently visited a customer whom we demonstrated the MATADOR MO seed drill for winter rape (the Manhattan mid-late variety) crop establishment in heavier soil. Crop monitoring shows that the reaction of rapeseed to lower seeding rates and strip seeding is positive, namely in terms of branching.

Rapeseed is known for its compensation ability and so correct seeding rate selection and the method are essential. Thanks to the strip cultivation, MATADOR MO provides rapeseed with better access to moisture, which is an essential advantage especially during dry periods. This year, with the rapid onset of spring and higher temperatures, it is more than optimal for testing the impact of a strip-till seed drill on crops sown last autumn.
