Direct Drilling as a Key to Sustainable Farming

The DIRECTO NO seed drill is designed for direct drilling of various crops into uncultivated soil, stubble fields, catch crops or heavy and stony soils. In one pass, it can seed up to three types of crops, or apply fertiliser during seeding.

The direct drilling technology is a current trend in establishing both cash crops or catch crops, especially in areas lacking of precipitation. Unlike common crop establishment methods this technology maintains a permanent soil cover which minimises soil moisture evaporation, protects the fields from erosion and prevents weed growth. The considerable reduction of passes reduces soil compaction, and preserves soil capillarity. Finally, the permanent soil cover provides a source of nutrients and prevents their leaching.

Smooth Passage and Verified Drill Coulter Pressure

DIRECTO NO offers 16.7 cm inter-row distance between the drill coulters. Drill coulters are mounted in two rows to guarantee their smooth passage through large quantities of crop residue or organic matter, such as mulch after maize harvest. The patented drill coulters place the seed into an identical sowing depth across the entire machine width and perfectly copy the uneven terrain in both longitudinal and lateral direction. The high pressure of 250 kg per drill coulter guarantees quality seed placement, even in difficult conditions.

The optional equipment for the machine includes additional weights that increases the weight of the seed drill and guarantees maintaining the set sowing depth and pressure on the drill coulters, even in difficult conditions.

Crop Establishment Options

The DIRECTO NO seed drill with a width of 6 metres has a double-chamber pressurised hopper with 5,000 litres tank-capacity. Overpressure is created in the tank thanks to the airtight closure, allowing dosing of high amounts with high precision independently of the seed/fertiliser granule size.
The ALFA DRILL 400 seeding unit with a capacity of 400 litres is available on request. The total of three hoppers guarantees a high variability in crop establishment – sowing the main crop with simultaneous fertiliser application, sowing up to three types of seeds, or the option to apply microgranulate fertiliser.

The DIRECTO NO seed drill offers two fertiliser placement options. The first option is mixing seeds with fertiliser from the individual chambers in the pipeline, when the material is transported to the distribution head together. The fertiliser is immediately available to the seeds in the ground during germination, improving its utilisation and the development of the young crop. The second option is to apply fertiliser using fertiliser coulters that place it under the seeds, making it available to the plant in the later growth stage.

The optional equipment for the machine includes a screw conveyor for convenient filling of the double-chamber hopper.

The fertiliser coulter depth can be set up hydraulically.

This modern technology offers sustainable soil management, but also significant economic savings, mainly through the elimination of herbicide application and lower fuel consumption due to several passes on the field.
