Even today, seed drills still require calibration of the seed batch per hectare, or fertiliser when the machine provides fertilisation as well. This also applies to the OMEGA seed drills by BEDNAR. Even though seeding mechanism calibration might look difficult at first, it is actually easy.
The machine needs to be checked prior to calibration of the seeding mechanism – this mainly concerns the connection of the seed drill to the tractor using ISO-BUS cabling, terminal functionality, tightness of the hopper lids (if the seed drill is pressurised), fan functionality etc. When the basic functions of the machine have been checked and the hopper has been filled with seeds/fertiliser, the machine is prepared for batch calibration.
The fan has to be turned on for calibration of OMEGA seed drills, with fan speed at approx. 3,500 min-1 (to prevent depositing of the seeds/fertiliser in the conduit). Before the fan is turned on, switch the conduit flap from the distribution head to the calibration duct, then remove the calibration duct cover and insert the calibration bag. The terminal has to be activated before calibration.
The calibration conduit is installed at the very end of the machine. The practical experience from the operation of seed drills has shown that this design is more convenient as regards access of the operator to the calibration conduit. Another advantage of this design is the possibility to empty the remaining seeds back into the bags.
