Seedbed Preparation with a Cultivator
The machine processes soil precisely to the depth required for the placement of the seeds. It contributes to the weeding of the soil by destroying emerging weeds. If required, it incorporates fertiliser into the soil.
BEDNAR cultivators can have up to seven working sections. They help achieve the required quality of work during seedbed preparation.
Prior to the configuration of the machine, one must consider the conditions in which the machine is going to work. Based on this consideration, the most suitable equipment for the specific conditions is selected. Unfortunately, there is no manual that would provide information about what equipment is the best for the given conditions. However, there are recommendations that can be used as a starting point for selecting a very good set up of the seedbed cultivator.
An ideal cultivator prepares the seedbed in a single pass. More passes cause soil compaction. That may be one of the factors that affect the crop in the following economic year. A single pass considerably contributes to saving fuel and the cost of expendable parts (such as shares, etc.).
Setting Cultivators for Work
The working sections of the cultivator are set after we arrive in the field and unfold the machine from the transportation position to the working position. There are no detailed manuals for such settings. It is not possible to set the machine perfectly for the first time. The first setting is done according to one’s ideal requirements. After several meters, the machine will show us what is wrong and what has to be adjusted.
Generally, the machine should not get extremely clogged and it should not pull up large quantities of moist clods to the surface. As mentioned above, it is good to prevent undesirable soil compaction behind the tractor wheels. Therefore, the machines are equipped with track cultivators, installed behind the tractor wheels, or the cultivator wheels. The track cultivators also have to be adjusted to fulfil the required task.
When the working depth of the share section and the track cultivators has been set, the front leveller is set, followed by the crush bar and the leveller behind the share working section. finally, the rear leveller or the finish roller is set according to the machine equipment. These two working sections provide the final surface levelling and they are set by selecting the down pressure.
