The OMEGA OO_FL seed drill offers a high degree of versatility, allowing the seeding setup to be adapted to specific field conditions and the grower’s requirements. Its comprehensive specification copes with light, medium‑heavy and heavy soils, and the seeding coulters, mounted via parallel linkage, precisely maintain seeding depth even on hilly and undulating terrain.

Variable seeding options

Five seeding modes, from tilled soil to seeding into a catch crop. For each mode we outline the operating sequence of the machine's individual sections and the potential risks.

What to watch for
Excessive coulter pressure will place seeds too deep, reducing their ability to germinate.

What to watch for
Where there is a large quantity of crop residues, the seeding coulters can become clogged. It is therefore important to use TURBO coulters, which cut the plant biomass and create a slot ahead of the seeding coulters. For good throughput of material through the machine, choose a row spacing of 16.7 cm.

With a large amount of biomass, the seeding coulters may become clogged. It is important to use TURBO coulters and, to ensure the throughput of material through the machine, to select a row spacing of 16.7 cm.

  • The disc section with aggressive discs loosens the topsoil, cuts crop residues and mixes them with the soil.
  • TURBO coulters precisely cut crop residues and create a groove for the seeding coulters, thereby reducing clogging.

What to watch for
On heavy or stony soils, the disc section may not reliably prepare the seed bed. With a high amount of crop residues, seeding coulters may become blocked; therefore it is important to use TURBO coulters and a row spacing of 16.7 cm. If a front packer is absent, consider the machine’s stability and the load on the drawbar.

What to watch for
In very wet soils, clods can form and block the seeding coulters. To ensure the throughput of material through the machine, it is advisable to choose a row spacing of 16.7 cm.

Flexible row spacing for every seeding requirement

Different row spacings depending on the crop, the amount of crop residues and the management system.

Narrower rows prevent conditions favourable to competitive weeds, thereby reducing the need for subsequent herbicide control. This is particularly beneficial for spring seeding. Narrower rows also promote good overall soil cover and reduce water evaporation.
Narrow row spacing increases canopy humidity and hinders drying of the leaf surface, making crops more susceptible to fungal diseases.

This spacing performs reliably when working with larger volumes of crop residues or in no‑till systems. Wider spacing improves the throughput of material. Air circulates more freely in wider rows, which limits the development of conditions favourable to disease. It promotes better tillering and permits a lower overall seeding rate.

Wider spacing allows mechanical weed control. The seeding rate is generally lower, saving on seed costs. Wider rows also permit the application of liquid fertiliser during the growing season and the sowing of catch crops into the mid-rows. This approach is also used in organic farming.

OMEGA OO_FL also permits sowing in double rows with a 12.5–25–12.5 cm spacing. This technology is particularly suited to drier areas, where the increased space between rows provides a longer water supply for the plants. Wider double rows are also used in organic farming.

Simultaneous fertiliser placement and sowing of catch crops

Multiple components in a single pass mean fewer trips across the field. Choose the configuration based on what you will actually apply during seeding.

Without optional equipment

The simplest solution for standard seeding

A two‑chamber hopper allows storage of up to two types of material in a single pass. It allows seeding:

  • distribute the contents of both hoppers (seed/fertiliser) evenly across the entire working width of the seed bar
  • seed alternately from each chamber per seeding coulter

Mid‑row placement of fertiliser

A two‑chamber hopper allows seed and fertiliser to be placed in a single pass. A configuration with fertiliser discs enables application of fertiliser into the mid row, where it is accessible to the crop roots.

With the ALFA hopper

The additional ALFA hopper also enables broadcast application of fertiliser, seed or bioagents. Seeding options include:

  • evenly — the contents of both hoppers across the full working width of the seeding bar, with simultaneous broadcast application behind the disc section or between the seeding coulters
  • alternately — the contents of each chamber to each seeding coulter, with simultaneous broadcast application behind the disc section or between the seeding coulters

Seeding catch crops with simultaneous fertiliser placement

The top configuration combines all options. You can seed the contents of one hopper across the full working width of the seeding bar with simultaneous fertiliser placement, or seed a catch crop into the mid row while broadcast‑applying seed, fertiliser or bioagents behind the disc section or between the seeding coulters.

Gentle seeding for more sustainable farming

More moisture, less erosion and compaction. Six specific benefits for the soil and its long‑term fertility.

The disc section creates a soil structure that reliably captures and retains rainfall. PROFI coulters gently and shallowly loosen the soil even in demanding conditions. Subsequent consolidation by the individual rubber packer speeds the restoration of capillarity and ensures firm seed‑to‑soil contact, the basis for uniform emergence. Track eradicators simultaneously loosen the tractor wheel tracks and so limit runoff of water and soil from the field.

A wide range of optional accessories allows the machine to be adapted to field conditions and to limit the potential for water or wind erosion. Wider row spacing permits leaving more crop residues on the field, which cushion the impact of raindrops and reduce runoff. The frontpack and the CRUSHBAR belt reliably level the field across the full working width, preventing ruts that would channel water away.

The machine’s design ensures that pressure on the soil is distributed across the entire contact area of each individual rubber packer. This significantly reduces the formation of compacted layers and their adverse effects on soil properties.

Fertiliser discs and seeding coulters enable targeted placement of fertiliser directly into the crop root zone, where it can be readily taken up by the roots. This markedly reduces the risk of fertiliser loss to the surrounding environment.

The disc section permits shallow discing to prepare the seed bed simultaneously with seeding, thereby reducing the number of necessary agrotechnical operations and passes. Combined with targeted fertiliser placement, this markedly limits harm to soil organisms that are essential for breaking down residues and releasing nutrients in plant-available forms.

A two-chamber hopper enables seeding of multiple species in a single pass, thereby enhancing species diversity within the field ecosystem. The optional ALFA hopper provides an additional chamber for another seed or a bioagent in microgranulate form.

Under which conditions is OMEGA OO_FL suitable?

Extensive equipment enables the machine to adapt to a wide range of conditions. It is suitable for seeding in light, medium‑heavy and heavy soils. Seeding coulters mounted via parallel linkage precisely maintain seeding depth even on hilly and undulating terrain. The machine is intended primarily for seeding into soil worked in front of it, but with appropriate equipment it can alternatively be used to seed directly into ploughed soil, catch crops or crop residues.

What are the main risks and limits?

Four situations that impair seeding results:
• Unsuitable weather for seeding. In particular, high soil moisture leads to the formation of clods and poorer seed placement.
• Clogging of seeding coulters due to unsuitable configuration or excessive crop residues. The solution is TURBO coulters, which cut the biomass and create a groove in front of the coulters, and a row spacing of 16.7 cm for improved passage.
• Selecting an incorrect coulter pressure. Excessive pressure places seeds too deep, from where they cannot germinate properly.
• Incorrectly set seeding rate.

Which row spacing should be chosen?

12.5 cm suppresses weeds and reduces herbicide use, particularly in spring crops. However, expect higher crop moisture and increased susceptibility to fungal diseases.
16.7 cm is the choice for greater amounts of residues and no‑till systems: better passage, air circulation, improved tillering and reduced seeding rate.
A 25 cm row spacing enables mechanical weed control, reduced seed usage, the application of liquid fertiliser during growth and the sowing of catch crops into the mid-rows.
The 12.5–25–12.5 cm double-row configuration is used in drier regions, where the larger spacing between rows prolongs the plants’ access to water.
