TILLCUT TE in rocky soils: how do the cutting rollers perform?

Rocky soils are among the most demanding conditions for stubble tillage. At ZD Dolní Újezd, TILLCUT TE covered around 300 hectares and showed how the HARDOX blades hold up under this level of stress.

The pull-type TILLCUT TE cutting rollers worked in canola stubble on lighter, rocky soil under dry conditions. The implement is equipped with high-quality cutting blades made from highly wear-resistant HARDOX material that can withstand high mechanical loads.

After approximately 300 hectares of work, wear consistent with the demanding conditions was already visible on the blades. Despite intensive contact with rocks, the cutting blades maintained good functionality and demonstrated high durability.

The blades can also be replaced individually. If a blade is worn or damaged, the entire roller does not need to be replaced, only the affected blade, which directly impacts operating costs in rocky soils.

How does TILLCUT TE react to rocks?

When passing over smaller rocks, the HARDOX cutting blades were able to split them. Larger rocks occasionally became lodged between the rollers and had to be removed mechanically.

Rocky soils are generally among the most demanding conditions for tillage and place increased stress not only on the implement’s working tools but also on the operator. This is where the importance of high-quality, durable cutting blades becomes clear.

Operating speed and fuel consumption

TILLCUT TE operated at approximately 23 km/h with average fuel consumption of 2.9 l/ha. The cutting rollers were not filled with water.

Filling the rollers with water is optional and increases implement weight per meter of working width, thereby increasing the cutting effect. Under the conditions at ZD Dolní Újezd, the implement completed the work without water.

Experience at ZD Dolní Újezd shows that TILLCUT TE cutting rollers can also be used in rocky soils. After hundreds of hectares, the demanding work was visible on the cutting blades, yet the HARDOX blades maintained good working performance and high durability.
